I awoke at approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning to take Jack out. When we came back in I realized it would be to my advantage to go ahead and get my shower. We planned on getting up at 3:30 to shower and get ready. Tony had laid out his clothes last night.
So, after showering, I took clothes out of the dryer, loaded more clothes in and started the wash. I began packing my bag while coffee and oatmeal was made. Jack was hungry and scarfed down his breakfast.
Tony made it up at 3:30 and got his shower. By the time the oatmeal was ready, I had Babe's breakfast in her bowl. She did not get up for another 30 minutes or so. And when she did I took her out. She was ready for her breakfast so all the routine was done by 4:30. Jack took another walk and we were all set for our trip to St. John's.
There were so few cars on the road at that time it was like a ghost town. The front doors did not open until 5:30 so we made our way to the ER door and waited in the lobby until Admitting opened.
Upon checking in we were redirected to the 2nd floor Pre-Op. After getting contacts and cell phone numbers from Tony he was taken to the back for prep. I was allowed back for a short time prior to his being wheeled into the operating area. I took this priceless photo and I am sure he will complain when he sees it.
It is about 7:30 a.m. and I am back in the waiting room. One text from a friend and a waiting room with eight other people waiting on a variety of patients in for different surgeries (hip replacement, ovarian tumor removal, etc.)
Tony was taken into the operating room at 7:55 a.m. Surgery started about 8:15 a.m. At 9:10 they brought me to a private conference room to see the doctor but told me it could be up to 30 minutes . . . I am still waiting at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Mason came in about 10:10 to let me know all was well. Tony had lots of scar tissue (evidently from his previous appendectomy) and the procedure took about twice as long as normal.
I also had scar tissue from my ectopic pregnancy. Two peas in a pod.
He is in recovery and when he gets to Post Op I will be taken back to where we started.
Depending on how much pain he is having he will be allowed to go home. I will update this after we know for sure. The extra pain is because of having to deal with the scar tissue and manipulating the tissue.
I cannot tell you how impressed I am with their waiting room. They had all the patients on a screen with assigned numbers so we could tell exactly where he was and the two ladies at the desk updated us verbally in addition to the screen. When I was in the conference room a lady came by passing out warm blankets to those who were chilled. My ankles were so I took advantage of it. Nice work St. John's!
We were home by about 2. Our propane was about out and by the time I turned the heater on and tried to heat up soup for Tony it went out. We hooked up our small tank and I went to refill the big tank. Now we are toasty warm.
Tony downed a cup of chicken soup and will have more later. I am having left over chili. The puppies did not know what was going on and I had to mop the floor when we arrived home.
We will relax and watch some TV this afternoon. Glad to be home!
